A BIG UNIC welcome to our Spring 2024 Semester in Cyprus Class!
Students have settled in to their Student Residences, completed orientation activities which included presentations on health, safety, history and culture. They experienced Cypriot cuisine first hand both as a behind-the-scenes cooking demonstration as well as a Welcome Dinner at a traditional Cypriot taverna. Students enjoyed a tour of the campus, the neighbourhood, Old Town Nicosia, and had their first excursion to Limassol – Ancient Kourion and Kolossi Castle. They also had a crash course in Greek language, which we hope they will practice using throughout their time here in Cyprus.
Classes begin today, and students are navigating their way to their classrooms and getting started on their academic semester abroad!
Good luck! Have a great semester!
Happy New Year!
In January, we welcomed J-term groups from Elon University and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
The Elon University group concentrated on conflict resolution throughout their 10-day program. They had the unique opportunity to collaborate with local non-governmental organizations dedicated to bi-communal peace initiatives. Additionally, they held a meeting with representatives from the UN peacekeeping forces in Cyprus within the UN-controlled buffer zone. The program also included cultural activities, such as a Bread and Cheese making workshop in a local village, interactions with local UNIC students, and tours of various historical and cultural landmarks on the island.
Meanwhile, the University of Massachusetts Amherst group delved into the theme of Cross-Cultural Communication during their 3-week program. Apart from daily classes with their professor on the UNIC campus, students actively participated in volunteer projects with local non-governmental organizations and had the opportunity to meet with UNIC faculty discussing topics of community internet radio and contemporary Cyprus culture after membership in the EU. They explored cultural and historical sites in Nicosia, as well as Cyprus’ mountainous and coastal regions. Engaging with local cultural traditions at the farmers’ market and handicraft center, the students had meaningful conversations with local producers and artisans.
We wish everyone a wonderful semester ahead, and look forward to welcoming our Spring students very soon!
Happy end of the semester!
As always, it’s hard to believe we are at the end of the year again, and ready to bid farewell to our class of Fall 2023.
This semester, we had 3 Gilman Scholars, who were hosted for a beautiful lunch with the US Ambassador and her awesome golden retriever, Tyler 🙂
To see a breakdown of majors represented this semester, see below!
Our class historian will put together what is sure to be a tear-jerker of a video capturing fond memories from the semester to be shown at our farewell dinner next week – pass the box of tissues, please!
Our students enjoyed the UNIC Christmas Village, UNIC Holiday Party, have been studying hard for finals, took their final program excursion to the Troodos Mountains, they have been traveling independently as well.
We wish everyone happy holidays, and look forward to welcoming your students in the New Year!

This year, it took place at the newly-opened Loft Restaurant with beautiful 360 views of Nicosia atop the SIX Student Residences!
Her Excellency, the U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus joined us as well!
The menu featured traditional Thanksgiving fare – see below 🙂
